MEMORIAL DAY
I know my grandfather would be proud of me as the only female to follow in his footsteps to serve in the United States Army.  I am proud to publicly honor him and the sacrifices he made in service to our country. We called him Papa, a term of endearment. While reaching the rank of sergeant in an infantry regiment during the 1800s, I cannot imagine the conditions under which he served nor the struggles he endured to reach that rank.  I have so many fond memories of my grandfather, Papa.
